I haven't been posting much as of late, but there have been a few stories bouncing around in my head. The media's criticism of Nancy Pelosi's visit to Syria is one of them and seems a bit unfounded considering she is being blasted despite a Republican trip to the same region. Better to bury your head in the sand.
Also, John McCain took a leisurely stroll in Baghdad to prove that the streets were safe to walk on. Besides the armed guards and bulletproof vest, there is the small matter that 10 U.S. troops were killed there over the weekend. But John McCain says its safe so it must be so. (Oh, and take a look at the man's website for Pete's sake and tell me if it doesn't look like something Orwellian, or at least out of Gotham City.)
An article in The New Yorker about some fishy tactics being used by army recruiters caught my attention. According to one recruiter you are more likely to be gunned down in the streets of D.C. than to be killed in Iraq. But the truth is those numbers don't add up.
And lastly there is this article that talks about the epic collapse of the Bush administration. (The irony of it being in Time is not lost on me...) I whole heartedly agree with the article. Lets review:
- Guantanamo
- State sponsored torture
- Illegal wire taps
- IRAQ!!!
- Walter Reed
- Improper firing of U.S. attorneys
And I am sure the list goes on. Feel free to add any more you can think of in the comments.
