In a move of incalculable
political sleaziness, Senator Lieberman has connected the foiled terrorist plot with his opponent Ned Lamont. Lamont may not be correct in his assertion that we need to pull out of Iraq, but connecting Iraq with a terrorist plot hatched by extremist British citizens is a stretch. Statements such as, “We cannot deceive ourselves that we live in safety today and the war is over, and it’s why we have to stay strong and vigilant,” and, "[the enemy is] more evil, or as evil, as Nazism and probably more dangerous than the Soviet Communists we fought during the long Cold War,” sounds like the same rhetoric that the Republicans touted in 2004. Unfortunately scare tactics in politics seem to be the flavor of the day in Washington and beyond.
